Terms of service

The short version. Cory is software you install on your own Mac. It can run commands and change files there, so you are responsible for who you let address it and for checking anything consequential before you rely on it. We license it to you as it is, we do not run it for you, and our liability is limited.
These terms form an agreement between you and Crate Systems (“Crate Systems”, “we”, “us”) covering Cory (the “Software”) and this website (the “Site”). By joining the waitlist, installing the Software or using the Site you accept them. If you do not, do not install it.
1. What Cory is
The Software is a background service that runs on a Mac you own or control. It watches for messages that address it, and responds in the same conversation. It can read and write files on that machine, run commands on it, search the message history stored on it, and act on third-party accounts you connect. It is not a hosted service. We do not operate a server that your conversations pass through.
2. What you need before it will work
- A Mac running a supported version of macOS, awake and connected to the internet.
- Your own Claude account or API credentials from Anthropic, in good standing and used in line with Anthropic’s terms. We do not resell it and we do not provide it.
- Full Disk Access granted to the Software by you, manually. macOS does not permit an installer to grant it.
- Accounts for any third-party service you choose to connect, such as Notion or Google Calendar.
If a third-party service you rely on changes, breaks or withdraws access, the corresponding Cory feature may stop working. That is outside our control.
3. License
Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and run the Software on Macs you own or control, for your own use or that of your organization. You may not sublicense it, sell access to it, rent it out, or offer it to third parties as a service.
You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software except where that restriction is unenforceable under applicable law; remove or obscure notices in it; or use it to build a competing product.
We own the Software and everything in it. You own your content — your messages, your files, and the documents Cory produces at your request.
4. Your responsibilities
- Access control is yours. You decide who may address Cory. The owner of the machine can direct it to run commands and change files. Anyone else in a conversation gets a restricted version that cannot touch the machine. Configuring that correctly, and keeping it correct, is your responsibility.
- Review anything consequential. Do not send an invoice, act on a figure, delete a file, or make a decision that costs money or time on Cory’s output without reading it first. See the AI usage policy.
- Back up your machine. Cory can modify and delete files when asked. Keep working backups.
- Other people in the conversation. If Cory is present in a group conversation, everyone in it can see what it is asked and what it answers. Where the law of your jurisdiction requires notice or consent before processing other people’s messages, obtaining it is your responsibility, not ours.
- Comply with the rules that apply to you. Including Apple’s terms for macOS and Messages, Anthropic’s usage policies, and the terms of any service you connect.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use the Software or the Site to:
- break the law, infringe someone’s rights, or help someone else do either;
- access a machine, account or dataset you are not authorized to access;
- send unsolicited bulk messages, or automate messaging in a way that breaches Apple’s terms or telecoms law;
- surveil, profile or monitor a person without a lawful basis and, where required, their knowledge;
- generate material that is unlawful, that sexualizes minors, or that is designed to harass, defraud or impersonate;
- attempt to defeat the restrictions that limit what non-owners can ask Cory to do.
We may terminate your license if you do any of these, and we may decline to supply you in future.
6. Waitlist, updates and email
Joining the waitlist is not a purchase and does not guarantee access, a release date, or any particular feature. We may contact you about Cory. You can unsubscribe at any time. See the privacy policy.
7. Price and changes
Cory is not yet generally available and no price is offered here. If we introduce paid terms in future we will publish them, and they will not apply retroactively to a license you already hold without notice to you.
We may change, suspend or discontinue features. Where a change removes a significant capability and we hold your email address, we will tell you.
8. Beta software
The Software is pre-release. It will contain defects. It may lose data, produce wrong output, or stop working after a macOS or third-party update. Do not use it as the only copy of anything you cannot lose.
9. Disclaimers
The Software and the Site are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or trade usage. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its output will be correct.
Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer you have statutory rights that these terms do not affect.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data, however caused.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these terms, the Software or the Site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or one hundred United States dollars.
11. Indemnity
You will indemnify Crate Systems against third-party claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the Software in breach of these terms, from content you direct it to produce or transmit, or from your failure to obtain a consent or notice required in your jurisdiction.
12. Termination
You may stop at any time by uninstalling the Software and deleting its working directory. We may terminate the license on notice if you breach these terms. Sections 3 (ownership), 9, 10, 11 and 13 survive termination.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in California have exclusive jurisdiction — except that either party may seek injunctive relief anywhere to protect its intellectual property, and nothing deprives a consumer of the protection of the mandatory law of their place of residence.
14. General
These terms, with the privacy policy and the AI usage policy, are the whole agreement between us on this subject. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. Failing to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it as part of a merger or sale of the business.

Apple, macOS, Mac, Messages and iMessage are trademarks of Apple Inc. Notion is a trademark of Notion Labs, Inc. Claude and Anthropic are trademarks of Anthropic PBC. Google and Google Calendar are trademarks of Google LLC. Cory is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.
